If you are running a service-based business and want to be seen as an industry leader and feel trapped in sales and ops – this will benefit you.

The four pillars are:

  1. Unpacking the foundations
  2. Business model
  3. Sales focus
  4. High performing team

There are 29 modules in total. You can see an image at https://paulhigginsmentoring.com/

Today’s topic is pillar number four – the last. High performing team

You will learn the nine modules:

  1. Culture
  2. Engagement
  3. Capability development
  4. Recruitment & Onboarding
  5. Team Systems
  6. Expert pool
  7. Roles and Responsibilities
  8. Remuneration
  9. Policies and Procedures

I will keep them brief as we have a lot to get through.

Module 21 – Culture

If leadership is what they say about you when you are not in the room, culture is what others say about your company when you aren’t in the room.

Workplace culture is the environment that you create for your employees. It attracts and keeps talented people.

The key elements which make up a culture

  • Guiding Principles
  • Stories
  • Values and behaviours
  • Symbols
  • Teams
  • Routine & Rituals

Module 22 – Engagement

Engagement is a result of creating the right conditions for all members to give of their best each day, committed to the team goals and values and motivated to contribute to success.

You can measure it and improve it.

According to g2.com, some tools include

  • 15five
  • Tinypulse engagement

I go into more detail in my book Build Live Give on why, what and how.

Module 23 – Capability development

Probably heard the saying

“What if I train them and they leave?”…What if you don’t and they stay?!

It covers how you develop your people.

Elements include

  1. Capabilty reviews
  2. Performance Mgt
  3. Team development 70/20/10

Module 24 – Recruiting and onboarding

I could and should make a separate podcast out of this.

I will give you some quick tips here

  • Video applications for all roles. 6 questions ask me for them
  • Structured questions – situational and competency-based.
  • In pairs
  • Paid trial
  • Move fast if not the right fit
  • Get to know the person first
  • Detailed onboarding checklist – want to see our https://paulhigginsmentoring.com/questions

Module 25 – Team systems

I love running virtual teams. Have done so since 2012. The right systems help make this possible.

The key ones are:

  1. Project Management – Asana
  2. Communication – Voxer
  3. Video – Dubb and cloudapp

Module 26 – Expert Pool

I believe in fast-tracking my knowledge as time is the essential asset I have.

People come to me to results on Linkedin in 3 months that would take them 6-12 to learn themselves.

I have 471 vetted experts for you to draw on.

Pick what you are brilliant at and get experts in for the rest.

Module 27 – Roles and Responsibilities

Whether it was when I lead teams of 100’s of people at Coca-Cola or a team of two when I first started, setting out clear R&R was critical to success.

I believe there should one ultimate name again an activity. You can collaborate, but someone has to own it. We have these listed in Asana, so there is no confusion.

Module 28 – Remuneration

I come from the school where you pay the person on what the job role is worth and not what you can get away with. People are smart and will work it out.

I also believe in annual increases based on performance – results and behaviours.

Do the right thing, and you will never have any problems.

Module 29 – Policies and Procedures

I know you are screwing up your face. You left corporate because of the red tape, and now you want more.

We build them as the need arises.

Some examples are:

  • Leave
  • Chart of accounts
  • Website
  • Social media

They don’t have to be sophisticated. I principle which helps make fast decisions.

Today we covered a lot of ground because people are your business – especially if you run a service-based business.

  1. Culture
  2. Engagement
  3. Capability development
  4. Recruitment & Onboarding
  5. Team Systems
  6. Expert pool
  7. Roles and Responsibilities
