Urgency. It’s so important in sales. It gives customers a reason to buy now. It removes hesitancy. When you create urgency, you move your customer down the sales funnel faster. You increase conversions and deliver sales today, not potential sales at some unspecified time in the future.

In short, when you create urgency, you will deliver better sales numbers. You’ll increase conversions, boost revenues, and improve cash flow.

The trouble is, creating that sense of urgency is one of the most difficult things to do in sales. If you sound too pushy, and too eager to close, you risk alienating your customer. 

There are many strategies to get over this problem, but I’ve found that three perform way better than others.

3 Proven Ways for Creating Urgency in Sales

The important thing to focus on is your customer. If you try to create a sense of urgency because it is good for you, you will fail. Instead, always approach the conundrum from your customer’s point of view – why is it good for them to make the decision to buy now? Here are three ways to achieve this:

  1. Focus on the problem they want to solve

People are focused on problem-solving in their lives, and the most successful services are always those that fill a gap in the market and solve a problem. 

At the end of the day, you must focus on the problem that your customer is experiencing. The issue that, once solved, will make their life easier and their business more efficient or profitable. So, make sure that you cater to your customer’s needs. Listen to what they are saying and make sure you understand their pain.

Armed with this information, set out how your services will benefit them. Tackle each pain point, highlighting how your service solves this issue. As you walk through each, the barriers to a sale fall, and the sense of urgency to act will rise.

  1. Offer incentives and limit dates

You’ve made your customer a solution they can’t refuse. Now make them an offer they can’t refuse. 

Incentivizing customers to purchase your services is one of the most effective ways of creating urgency.

Incentives should encourage buyers to make a purchasing decision. You might offer time-limited discounts. Perhaps a time-limited addition, free of charge. 

This is a great tactic to combine with the first tactic above. The customer knows that your service delivers all they need, but they must get sign-off. That could take some time. A time-limited discount could be the incentive needed to expedite the process. A way to create the sense of urgency needed to get the deal signed off quickly.

  1. Schedule follow-ups closer together

Follow-up offers are a great way of being able to generate more interest and increase sales. 

The secret is to not leave too much time between offers. Making fast follow-ups ensures that your service and the problems it is solving are fresh in your customer’s memory. You’ll have more opportunities to create genuine interest. This is especially true if you are going to offer additions or accessories that enhance the services that have already been bought.

Create Urgency for Your Customer’s Uniqueness

Employing these tactics will help you close faster, whether you are selling in-person, virtually, or online. For the best results, you must drive the customer’s emotions toward the decision to purchase. Thus, it is crucial to understand your target market.
