Your LinkedIn Content Creation Guide

Using content as a tool to be found on social media platforms can help grow your brand, attract potential customers, and improve your public relations strategy.

Since LinkedIn is such an important platform for businesses, you must make sure you are sharing content effectively on your company pages to maximize your visibility on LinkedIn. Do this, and you’ll find it far easier to build an audience and loyal community among LinkedIn users.

How can you grow your business by sharing content on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional social network, and it has created a huge market for finding new skills and connections. It’s free to join, and if you follow a few simple steps, you have a great chance of attracting the right type of connections to your business.

Step #1: You’ll want to have a killer LinkedIn profile

The more effective your profile is, the more opportunities will come your way. Build your killer LinkedIn profile by following these tips:

  1. Have a great profile picture that matches your target audience

  2. Post an appealing header that attracts the clients you want to attract

  3. Compose a concise and descriptive headline

  4. Maintain your current contact information

  5. Be descriptive about who you serve, and include a call-to-action

  6. Include your story in the featured section (don’t miss this out) and a case study

  7. In the experience section, detail your services and what you bring to the table

  8. In the skills section, pin your top three skills, and bring the total to as many as possible

  9. Include current recommendations that are specific to your role

Step #2: Create a content strategy for LinkedIn posts

LinkedIn is not just a tool to share your original content; it’s also an opportunity to increase your brand awareness, build your audience, connect with potential clients, and generate leads for sales or promote your business.

The best way to use social platforms is by creating a content marketing strategy that includes post ideas such as updates, sharing knowledge, highlighting your successes, and client testimonials, among other things. Remember, people love content from thought leaders.

Think about what messages you want to send, and when it is best to send them. For example, if you’re launching a new service, what content will support you to do so?

You’ll also need to think about your objectives. For example, to add more followers, to encourage comments, or to induce follow-ups?

Step #3: Choose the right format for LinkedIn content

Now to creating LinkedIn content in the format that your audience finds most appealing.

Writing engaging LinkedIn posts has a lot of possibilities since it can be edited later if needed or used as a template for future posts. But you can also consider posting videos and audio, too. People love media. Make sure it complements the other content on your profile and includes some SEO value.

Step #4: Optimize posts for reach and impact

Okay, you’re almost set to publish your post. Before you do, you must optimize your post. To do this, make sure it is:

  • Short and concise. Reduce blog posts to no more than 500 words (this used to be 200 words). Take care not to make it too wordy and put people to sleep! Short and punchy is best.

  • Include a call-to-action (such as “Let me know what you think in the comments”).

  • Add three key hashtags (Here’s a list of the top-ranked hashtags in 2019).

  • Check for spelling and grammar (I use Grammarly).

  • Add white space to make it look great and read more easily.

  • Add a few emojis to make the piece pop (I use the Emoji Keyboard).

I’ve made a short video that covers all these points. Watch it here.

Step #5: Post at the right time

For maximum impact, you want to post at the best times. There is a bunch of research on this, though you’ll learn the best times for your audience when you follow step 6 in the process. What does the research say? Here’s a snapshot:

  • HubSpot – Wednesday between 10 am and 12 pm.

  • Sprout – Wednesday 8 am to 10 am and at 12 pm. Thursday at 9 am and between 1 pm and 2 pm. Friday at 9 am.

  • Buffer – Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between 7 are and 8:30 am, and between 5 pm and 6 pm.

Step #6: Learn from analytics to refine LinkedIn campaigns

One of the most important aspects of marketing on LinkedIn is analytics. By analyzing your metrics, you can improve your campaigns and decide on the best media for your content and the best times for posting.
