How to Get Business Leads on LinkedIn

For me, LinkedIn is the best social media to attract and capture leads into your business, especially if you are a B2B business.

The platform has evolved from a social networking site for people in the workforce. It’s now an invaluable tool. It not only helps you find new connections and potential business partnerships but also helps you discover opportunities and learn about the latest trends in your industry.

But it’s not working the way it should for you. Why is that? Let’s look at the basics of how to get business leads on LinkedIn.

In this article, you’ll learn three killer LinkedIn profile tips for business owners that will help you maximize your lead generation from the platform. First, though, let’s look at why your LinkedIn profile is so important for small business owners.

Here’s why you need a standout LinkedIn profile

To generate leads, LinkedIn profile optimization is essential. Why? Because your LinkedIn profile can help you gain access to highly qualified leads when you use it as a digital marketing tool. It helps you to build relationships with your target audience and become more productive with your time.

Don’t believe me? I want you to try something.

Enter your name into a Google search. Notice how your LinkedIn profile is right at the top of your list. Guess what people do when they are researching you? That’s right, they go directly to your LinkedIn profile.

Now, what is it that people will see on your profile?

Did you know that half of B2B buyers will ignore you if your LinkedIn profile isn’t complete? That’s what LinkedIn’s own stats tell us. That’s not all. Only half of LinkedIn users have a 100% complete profile.

So, first things first. If you have a complete LinkedIn profile, you immediately put yourself above half of your competitors. Plus, you don’t exclude half of your potential clients from your digital marketing strategy.

Yep, a complete LinkedIn profile is essential. But you don’t just want to be above half of your competitors. You want to stand out from all of them – and that’s what a standout LinkedIn profile will help you do.

How to optimize your LinkedIn profile for sales

Your LinkedIn profile is your opportunity to showcase your personal brand, so spend some time thinking about what makes you stand out from other people in similar positions as yours.

For your profile to generate more traffic, you must work on the following:

  • Creating a unique LinkedIn headline that helps people know what you do
  • Highlighting your skills and experience
  • Composing a powerful featured section to showcase your work
  • Keywording your profile to make it more searchable
  • Providing more detail about your program
  • Writing your job title and job description

You should word it all so that it is about the person viewing your profile, not about you. Oh, and remember to keep your profile updated.

Phew! It’s a lot to take in, right?

You can get a lot more detail from my free-to-download ‘Killer LinkedIn Profile Cheat Sheet’.

Right now, though, to get you started straight away, here are the three killer LinkedIn profile tips I promised you.

Tip #1: Make a good first impression

With so many people on LinkedIn, making a good first impression is crucial. This includes using catchy headlines and a great title to get your profile noticed and getting your profile picture spot on:

  • Put on your best smile and wear clothes that your ideal customer would
  • Make sure you are clear about what you do and who you serve
  • Let people know the results you achieve for clients

Tip #2: Highlight your skills

Okay, so you’ve described what you can do for clients, but that’s not enough to generate a lead. You’ve got to show that you can do what you say you can. That’s why you must highlight your skills. This also helps to build your professional brand. The top three things you must do here are:

  • Pin your top three skills
  • Present 40 in total
  • Get people in your network to ‘like’ them

Tip #3: Invite your profile viewers to contact you

It’s crucial to have a clear call to action. Let people know that you’d love them to contact you.

Include your contact info – you’d be surprised how many people forget this. Not including this is a big mistake. The easier you make it for people to reach out to you, the more people will do so. Therefore, make certain that you add your email address, company website URL, and relevant landing pages.

In your client-facing ‘About us’ section, include an experience section with results-based testimonials. And make it easy to read. It’s not a blog, and nor should it be ‘War and Peace’.

Load your lead generation with a standout LinkedIn profile

It’s important to have an active and complete LinkedIn profile since it gives you huge opportunities for business development. Used effectively, it should be your leading lead generator. Put the tips I’ve included here into action now. You’ll start to see views and leads improve.

To make your LinkedIn profile pop and stand out in the crowd, follow all nine killer tips in the ‘Killer LinkedIn Profile Cheat Sheet’.
